Previously featured as a segment within larger events, Geek Avurudu now steps into its own as a dedicated festival, reimagining Avurudu celebrations through a playful and creative lens. The event brings together cosplayers, anime fans, gaming enthusiasts and pop culture communities into a shared space where tradition meets imagination.
At its heart, Geek Avurudu transforms familiar New Year customs into interactive experiences with a fandom twist. Traditional Avurudu favourites are reimagined with creative, fandom-inspired twists, with kana mutti becoming Mutti Smash alongside games like Banis Wars, Infinity Kamba War and Game of Putu, forming part of a wider lineup of playful adaptations. The result is a lively, visually striking celebration that blends cultural nostalgia with modern expression.
Beyond traditional games, the event will feature the Geek Avurudu Kumara and Kumari cosplay competition as a central highlight, alongside a range of interactive experiences and entertainment for attendees including food stalls, and immersive photo experiences. From superheroes in sarongs to anime characters reinterpreted in traditional Avurudu wear, Geek Avurudu creates a space where creativity and culture collide in unexpected and engaging ways, reflecting a healthy fusion of tradition and modern expression.
